The land of legendary sports heroes
From the Vedic Age, Haryana has been the centre of many important events. Haryana is bordered by Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to the north, and by Rajasthan to the west and south. The river Yamuna defines its eastern border with Uttar Pradesh and it also surrounds the capital of the country, Delhi on three sides, forming its northern, western and southern borders. Over the years, Haryana has witnessed the fall and rise of many empires. In fact, the battle between the Kauravas and the Pandavas (described in the great epic Mahabharata) is said to have been fought on the site of the modern Kurukshetra in Haryana. It was also here that Krishna imparted his teachings of Bhagwad Gita to the Pandava warrior, Arjun.
Unlike its neighbours, Haryana is more of a mystery for tourists. Dotted with fascinating temples, lush greenery, and rarely visited historical towns, this town has many stories about battling empires and larger than life, maharajas. Home to some of the country’s most alluring abandoned fort, this state is a perfect fit for those who are looking to tread the path less taken.
