V Resorts Paawana Haveli Mandawa

“It is not down in any map; true places never are.” – Herman Melville

Mandawa is one destination that doesn’t feature in every tourist map of Rajasthan. There are even chances that very few people have heard about this place—but that’s exactly what makes this place a hidden gem. Far from the madding crowd of tourists, Mandawa is a place steeped in history, lore and Shekhawati art, and we are there to offer you the quintessential experience of this destination by offering you a cosy room in a 100-year-old haveli, which is now called V Resorts Paawana Haveli Mandawa.

P.S: There is a beautiful ancient Raghunath temple located close to the resort. This restricts our delicious menu to vegetarian food only. And it is served hot and fresh with loads of desi ghee making it absolutely lip-smacking.

Live Like The 18th Century Marwari Traders

Mandawa is a place which was considered as a thikana or the primary hub of Marwari traders. And it was them who had built the city’s magnificent havelis—that are self-sufficient to be called heritage monuments of architectural value. In order to offer an authentic experience of Mandawa to travellers, we have converted one of these havelis into a resort with all sorts of modern amenities in place, along with a touch of history in every experience we offer to our guests at the resort.

Situated next to the 300-year-old Raghunath Temple, every nook and corner of V Resorts Paawana Haveli Mandawa is a treat for heritage lovers. With its chaupal-style seating area, arched niches, and numerous jharokhas, the resort transports you back to the bygone era. The walls of the haveli are adorned with the traditional Shekhawati art—one of the things that Mandawa is known for.

For travellers looking to spend those valuable moments of leisure in the company of friends and family, there’s an aangan-style central courtyard having a tree, along with chairs and tables laid out in the area underneath it. Apart from the aangan, the resort is also home to yet another open courtyard which doubles up as a lounge.

For those who like to indulge in shopping, the courtyard of this resort is home to a shop which sells a selection of various local artefacts, tie-and-dye fabrics and colourful Rajasthani puppets that are all handpicked for the convenience of the guests.

Dine Under The Stars

One thing that sets V Resorts Paawana Haveli Mandawa from its counterparts is its beautiful rooftop restaurant. Dining in this restaurant is an experience in itself as you can actually fill your palate with the goodness of freshly cooked local delicacies served right under the light of the stars. With an ambient lights setting up the mood and the twinkling stars smiling upon you from above, the sleepy town of Mandawa greets you with its breathtaking night views as you sample on some delicious food.

V Inclusive Experiences

Mandawa is not one of those run-of-the-mill destinations of Rajasthan where a traveller spends his entire day hobnobbing across forts. Thanks to its unique history, the town of Mandawa is an amalgamation of myriad charms, including heritage, art and architecture. Here are some of the best experiences that we have handpicked for you. All you need to do is book a room with V Experiences included in it, and we will take care of the rest from there.

Guided City Tour

There are plenty of interesting places to explore in Mandawa, and our team of travel experts at V Resorts Paawana Haveli Mandawa are always happy to be a traveller’s guide in experiencing them. Here are some of the places in Mandawa that are included in our Guided City Tour experience:

Explore Shekhawati Art

Mandawa, which falls under the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, traces its roots back to the period between 18th and 20th centuries, when the rule of Rajputs and the Mughals was brought to an end in the country, while the British came to power. As a result of this, a certain class of Jain and Marwari merchants, who found more freedom in running their businesses, migrated to places like Mandawa and started depicting their newly-found social status in the form of paintings adorned on the walls of the havelis they lived in—which we now know as the famous Shekhawati Art. Rich in colours and accents, this style of painting is unique to this part of the country and is known to attract artists, intellectuals and avid travellers alike, not just from Indian but different parts of the world as well. The tradition of painting the houses with Shekhawati Art is done even to this day, and It’s the same reason why the town of Mandawa is often referred to as an open art gallery.

Haveli Tour

While V Resorts Paawana Haveli Mandawa ensures that you are living in one of those havelis that make Mandawa so special a place, but when you are there in this town, it’s impossible that you miss out on a tour of the other havelis that make this place so famous. One of the most popular havelis of this place is the Chokhani Double Haveli, which was built in the year 1910 and derives its name from the fact that it was built in two parts to accommodate the families of two brothers. Adorned with paintings that include floral arabesques and peacocks above the archways, along with those that depict the legends of Lord Krishna, and even some that show mournful British soldiers, this haveli has been the shooting location for several Bollywood blockbusters, including Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK among others. Just ask our resort manager, and someone will be there to guide you across all the amazing havelis of Mandawa.

Mandawa Fort

Just like the name suggests, the Mandawa Fort is the most important place to see in the Shekhawati town of Mandawa. Surrounded by the Aravalli Hills, the Mandawa Fort was built in the 18th century by Thakur Nawal Singh, a Shekhawat Rajput ruler of the time. This fort is the epitome of all the amazing Shekhawati art a traveller can witness across the town. While a number of frescoes depict Lord Krishna and his cows, the Durbar Hall is particularly famous for housing quite a few antiques and amazing paintings, and to add to the beauty of this section are also the exquisite mirror work. When a traveller visits Mandawa, this fort needs to be there in his bucket list of places to see for sure.

Exclusive Experiences

While we are always happy to be a guide to all the experiences that are on offer at Mandawa, we have also created a few experiences exclusively for our guests. Given below are the exclusive experiences that are on offer at V Resorts Paawana Haveli Mandawa:

Sand Dunes Experience

Our resort staff will be happy to accompany you with a picnic basket full of your favourite food and drinks that you can enjoy on the sand dunes, along with Rajasthani folk dance being performed by local dancers right in front of your eyes.

Village Walk With Lunch

When you go on a guided village walk with our travel expert, you will first make your way through cobbled and narrow lanes of Mandawa, a place where history lives on in the form of red sandstone havelis—that once used to be the residences of aristocrats that ruled the city long time ago. When you step out of the town and enter the outskirts, you will come across small villages that are called dhaanis in the local language. These dhaanis are known for being culturally vibrant, and being home to residents who are proficient in folk performing arts and preparing finger licking local cuisine. A walk through one of these villages can actually bring a traveller in close encounters with the rich heritage of Mandawa. And to make things more interesting, our resort staff takes the guests to one of the village households, wherein he can sample on some delicious local food fresh out of the kitchen.

Timing: 1 PM to 3 PM

Evening Tea At Chhatri

Like all the Rajput rulers of Rajasthan, it was a common practice among the Shekhawati rulers of Mandawa to build chhatris in the memory of their loved ones. Located only 3 km from V Resorts Paawana Haveli Mandawa are some of the most popular chhatris of Mandawa, and our resort staff arranges the perfect evening tea setup on one of these chhatris. While you can sip on a hot cup of tea—made just the way you like it—you will be accompanied by a breathtaking view of the Mandawa town and a magnificent sunset casting the golden light of dusk on the cityscape.
