Local Tour

About 70 km form McLeodganj is the charming little village of Bir, which has several interesting monasteries including the Sherab Ling Monastery and Chokling Gompa. Billing, further higher up, is where you take off from when you go paragliding and hand gliding (and usually land in Bir). Bir-Billing is a world renowned paragliding destination; it recently hosted the paragliding world championships. This is also a good site for treks and camps.

Dharamshala, a short drive down from the resort, is home to four important Hindu shrines dedicated to various goddesses – Chamunda Devi, Bajreshwari Devi, Chintpurni Devi and Jwalamukhi Devi. The temples are between 20 to 60 km from the resort and visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.

V Resorts New Blue Heaven McLeodganj has a total of 20 rooms, 12 of them Royal rooms and 8 Super-Deluxe. All the rooms are decked out in the best of amenities, at par with international hospitality standards, and offer panoramic views of the Dhauladhar range. There are attached balconies with furniture for sit-out, with every room and an open terrace perfect for an evening around a bonfire or chilling with your companions.

The sprawling on-resort restaurant has a capacity of serving 50 to 60 guests at a time. While the chefs serve delectable Indian, Chinese and Continental fare, you may also enjoy a sampling of some local dishes on special request.

One of the most popular destinations among Indian youth, McLeodganj is an intoxicating headrush of nature, culture, food and partying. While most know Dharamshala as the centre of Tibetan culture, McLeodganj is the true hub of it, being Dalai Lama’s home and the headquarters of the Tibetan Government-in-exile. Apart from the monasteries, temples, prayer flags and prayer wheels, there is an assortment of food to sample in the eclectic cafes and restaurants here, including Tibetan, Continental and Indian. You’ll never feel bored or alone here, as you’ll find everybody from monks to Indian college students, to European tourists and Israeli backpackers just done with their mandatory military service roaming the busy streets here. Head on treks, gorge on food, explore the spiritual side of yours, party like crazy, or just enjoy soome solitude, this place is as interesting and malleable as Indian destinations get.
