A popular getaway from Delhi, V Resorts Jhalamand Garh is located 594 kms from Delhi and only 13.5 kms (drive time: 31 minutes) from Mehrangarh Fort, making it an ideal base to explore this royal city of Rajasthan. Architecturally, it blends fort architecture with a dash of contemporary style that includes wide open spaces and rooftop restaurant.

The resort is an idyllic oasis with manicured lawns, swimming pool and cozy corners to unwind with a good book and coffee (or cocktails) depending on your mood. Go Local

On the eastern fringe of the Thar Desert, Jodhpur, which has been dubbed as “the Blue City” after the colour-wash of its old townhouses, huddles below the mighty Mehrangarh Fort (13.5 kms from the resort), one of the most spectacular fort of Rajasthan. The fort dominates the cityscape from atop its huge sandstone plinth. Located at the top of a 400 feet hill and fortified by huge walls, this fort boasts of intricate wall carving, expansive courtyards, incredible architecture and a remarkable history.

There are numerous ways to explore the fort. Take a walking tour with one of their guides, zipline over it for top-down views of its gardens and lakes, or visit the fort during one of the three music festivals that are held here: World Sacred Spirit Festival, Rajasthan International Folk Festival or the Jodhpur Flamenco Gypsy Festival.

On your way back to the resort, don’t forget to stop at Jaswant Thada, a memorial made of white marble for King Jaswant Singh.

Shopping is another highly recommended activity in Jodhpur and the one place that you must bookmark is the Sardar Market which comprises the labyrinthine bazaars. You can find everything from colourful shoes and pottery to spices and teas here. It’s akin to a colourful reverie – just be prepared to bargain. On the other hand if you do not like bargaining, head to The National Handloom Cooperation on Nai Sarak. The shop offers a great array of clothes and accessories at fixed prices.

If going offbeat is what you like, fill your day with exploring the nearby countryside, go on a horse safari, discover the charms of Bishnoi villages (A semi-nomadic tribe, they known for their indigenous conservation methods & live about 45 minutes by road from the fort; visiting them is an eye-opening excursion), look out for wildlife and migratory birds, and spend some pleasant moments beside a lake. The manager at our resort will be more than happy to arrange the above mentioned activities for you.

PS: The rich and royal heritage of Jodhpur means that it has a veritable treasury of fables and folklore, most of which, thankfully, have been kept alive through festivals that are celebrated around the year. The Rajasthan International Folk Festival is one such event that provides an open stage to folk artists & musicians from India and across the world. February is reserved for the World Sufi Spirit Festival, where you can listen to artists from India, the Orient, the Middle East, and Africa playing music that’s been influenced by the history of nomads.

V Tip

Jodhpur is one of the best places in Rajasthan for a food trail. And when in Jodhpur, Janta Sweet Home is where you should head. Try the famous Jodhpuri Mirchi Vadas, Pyaaz ki Kachoris, and Mawe ki Kachoris. While you’re at it, don’t miss Mishrilal Hotel for its superb lassis, which are more like desserts than drinks.
