Explore Wayanad

A date with nature!

“Imagine a land blessed by the golden hand of history, shrouded in the timeless mists of mystery and legend, and flawlessly adorned by nature’s everlasting splendor.” Wayanad, with her enchanting vistas and captivating secrets, is a land without equal. And in her embrace you will discover something way beyond anything you have ever encountered.

Wayanad is a district located in the north-east region of the Indian state of Kerala, at the southernmost tip of the Deccan Plateau. It is known for its cool highland climate, misty peaks and its virgin forests. Wayanad also played a prominent role in the history of the subcontinent. It is often called the spice garden of the south, the land of paddy fields, and the home of the monsoon. Lying in the lap of the Banasura hills in the Wayanad district is the picturesque Banasura Sagar dam. Banasura Dam is the largest earthen dam in the country. The view of the sprawling reservoir from the top of the dam is breathtaking. Adventures like speed boating are readily available, and a trek up to the Banasura Peak is filled with streams, diverse flora, fauna, lush tropical green and majestic waterfalls. Located in the southeastern part of Wayanad, and approachable from Kalpetta as well as Sulthan Bathery, Neelimala is a trekkers delight, with options for various trekking routes. At the top of Neelimala, the sight is breathtaking with a view of the Meenmutty Falls located nearby and the valley in the foreground. Situated close to Neelimala, the spectacular Meenmutty Falls can be reached through a 2 km trekking route from the main road connecting Ooty and Wayanad.

Lying just 3 km south of Vythiri is a natural fresh water lake unspoiled by human habitation and activities. The Pookode lake tourist resort is famous for its aquarium and greenhouse. Visitors can enjoy a boat ride in its calm waters. Kayaking in the lake is another sought after activity. With a height 2100 meters above sea level, the Chembara peak is an attractive destination for Campers and Mountaineers. Many guided expeditions are conducted to this tallest summit of Wayanad.
