Thekkady tours

Explore Thekkady

The gateway to Periyar National Park

For many travellers, Thekkady in Kerala is an impressive tourist destination with its rich plantations, thick forests and scenic beauty. Lying at an altitude of 700-1,900 meters above sea level, and a population that is close to 18,000 people, the best time to visit this town is between September and March.

Periyar Tiger Reserve - Thekkady is the town that is the gateway to the Periyar Tiger Reserve and is surrounded by spice plantations. Popular, especially for the spotting of both elephants and tigers {along with a host of other mammals, snakes, birds and fishes}, this reserve offers a really immersive forest experience, as visitors are allowed to walk, raft and even camp in the forest.Want to take it up a notch? They have a late night hike, that will provide you a rare chance to experience the forest in the night.

Periyar Lake - The Periyar Lake was formed by the construction of the Mullaperiyar Dam in 1895. Harbouring a unique aquatic ecosystem, and surrounding the Periyar Forest Reserve, a boat cruise on the lake is a fun yet interesting way to observe the rich flora and fauna of the forest. While the reserve is open all throughout the year, V recommend you visit during the summer months {March- May}. This is because the chances of spotting animals increase drastically during this time, due to the fact that these animals come to the lake to drink water frequently.

Navarasa Kathakali Centre - Kerala has a very rich and diverse culture and the Kadathanadan Kalari and Navarasa Kathakali Centre is your chance to witness both kathakali and kalaripayattu from close quarters. Both these performances are spread over two hours, with show prices starting at INR 200 per hour. You are allowed to take pictures, so make sure you take your camera along.
