All of these have their own defining peculiarities, including specific professions and unique lifestyle. Turtuk, for example, is a village that came to India from Pakistan after the 1971 war. Since normal food produce like wheat flour is a scarcity here, the locals consume flour made from dried flowers. These villages in the Nubra valley are known for producing apricots and pashmina, the famous wool used for shawls. Take a day out to tour the villages, observe their remote way of life, the natural beauty of these cut-off areas, and top off the visit with a local meal at one of the villagers’ home.

Monasteries - A 20 minute drive from the resort is the revered Diskit monastery, located in a village of the same name. Founded in the 14th century, the monastery has a lot of historical and spiritual significance, and it is one of the best-known monasteries in India. There is a school for Tibetan kids on the premises, run by the monks who live here. Make a visit here to explore the lifestyle of the monks, to introspect on your own spirituality and you could also take a look at the official residence of the Chief Lama of Nubra, near the monastery.

Desert Safari at Hunder - Ladakh being a cold desert, the area around the Hunder village, where the resort is situated, has an abundance of sand dunes. Take advantage of this and go on a short camel ride, available near the resort. The experience is as unique as they come; not many can claim to have enjoyed Nubra on a camel’s back.
