McLeod Ganj tours

Explore McLeod Ganj

Experience a slice of Tibet, right here in India

Other than offering a range of delectable restaurants serving the best Tibetan food, the hill town is home to his holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama. One look at all that’s around, and you know why the holy man chose this town as his home.

Triund Trek - There are various easy as well as tough treks that you can choose from. The basic trek to Triund is stretched over 6 km and starts from Galu temple, a few hundred metres from the resort. Expect grassy valleys, gushing streams, intermittent boulders, oak forests, tea shops and little dhabhas. Inform the resort which has tie-ups with adventure tour operators, and plan your trek.

Bhagsu - A quiet village a short walk from McLeaodganj, conveniently obscured in hills, greenery and prayer flags, Bhagsu is an offbeat traveller/hippie’s delight. While you can easily spend your visit sampling the many cafes and the sights & sounds of nature here, there are a few not-to-be-missed spots here worthy of your time. While the Bhagsunag waterfall, with a large natural pool at the bottom, is the cream of the crop, you should also check out the literally surreal Shiva temple in the village.

Monasteries - Being the seat of his holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, and the headquarters of the Tibetan Government-in-exile, McLeodganj is a flamboyant influx of Tibetan culture and architecture. Visit the many Buddhist landmarks here, including the Tsuglagkhang Temple, which is Dalai Lama’s home, the Kalachakra Temple on the main street, the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Neching Monsatery and the Norbulingka Institute 8 km away, a major conservatory of Tibetan arts, crafts and culture.

Dharamshala Stadium - Also known as the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, this is perhaps one of the most picturesque stadiums you will ever come across. Located in the Kangra district, this stadium is renowned for offering the most breathtaking views of the entire region around you. The stadium has hosted 1 Test, 3 ODIs and 8 T20s till now.

Naddi Village - Perched at an elevation of 7,152 feet, Naddi is a serene village located just 3 km away from McLeodganj. A lesser-known gem of the area, this place is perfect for unwinding away from the major touristy crowd. It also offers spectacular views of the surrounding region and there are plenty of trails for you to go trekking on.

Bir Billing - About 70 km form McLeodganj is the charming little village of Bir, which has several interesting monasteries including the Sherab Ling Monastery and Chokling Gompa. Billing, further higher up, is where you take off from when you go paragliding and hand gliding (and usually land in Bir). Bir-Billing is a world-renowned paragliding destination; it recently hosted the paragliding world championships. This is also a good site for treks and camps.
