Arts in Delhi

A paradise for art lovers!

From local to internationally collected artists, famous to up-and-coming, sculpture to painting to photography, almost every art form finds a home in Delhi. So while there are many art galleries located at every crossroad in the city and art events taking place almost every weekend, we pick three important places, that every art lover must visit, when they come to Delhi. And these three places are the National Gallery of Modern Art, India Habitat Centre in Lodhi Estate and Siri Fort.

The National Gallery of Modern Art was designed by Edwin Lutyens, who forged a new style of architecture for Imperial Delhi by combining architectural elements of Mughal India with a neo-classical style. The galleries here have a varied history and are a living testimony of the era gone by - with paintings that start from the time period of Raja Ravi Varma to present day.

The India Habitat Centre of the other hand is home to several corporate entities and non-profit organisations. It also hosts various film screenings, art discourses and speeches by eminent personalities  on different art mediums like paintings, photography and sculptures.

Situated in Sri Fort, is the Academy of Fine Arts and Literature that has three galleries. The first gallery houses a permanent collection of India’s prominent painter Arpana Caur’s works, while the second is called the Miniature Art museum that displays paintings from the Persian, Sikh, Pahari and Rajasthani schools. Finally the third gallery is called the Museum of Folk Art and it has a n expansive collection of traditional folk styles from around the country.
