A rich heritage that boasts of a laidback vibe

Nestled in the picturesque Himalayan range, the town of Almora is a hill station that boasts of a rich heritage and laidback vibe.  It was the seat of power, during the Chand Dynasty and they ruled the Kumaon region for almost one thousand years. Popular for its rich, cultural heritage, unique handicrafts and memorable cuisines, there is something here for every type of traveller. Here are some things you can do in Almora.

Jageshwar Mahadev temple - Popular for its intricately carved temples, Jageshwar has multiple temples, that are known for their architecture and historical value. Among all these temples, Jageshwar Mahadev, which is situated in Jataganga Valley is the most important one as it is visited by maximum pilgrims. The Jageshwar Mahadev temple has two door guardians in the form of armed Nandi and Skandi. A west facing temple, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is also known for its beautiful inscriptions as well. In addition, the temple is situated in the Deodar forest, which provides some incredible views to all the visitors who come here.

Binsar Sanctuary - Located in the Himalayas on top of the Jhandi Dhar hills, the Binsar Sanctuary is around 33 km from Almora. Binsar was also the summer capital of the Chand Kings, who ruled over the Kumaon region between the 11th and 18th century. The sanctuary does not have a lot of animals, because it  was initially created to ensure the conservation and protection of the Quercus (a broad leaf oak tree) forests of the Central Himalayan region. In addition, this place is also home to almost 200 bird species, making it a favourite among bird watchers and nature lovers.

Bright End Corner - Only 7 minutes away from the resort, the Bright End Corner is a truly scenic and Instagram worthy spot. With beautiful views of sunrise and sunsets, this is one place that truly captures the beauty of mountains in a surreal yet magical manner. This incredible location also has a Vivekananda library, located near to it, making it perfect for bookworms who like to read in scenic locations. Additionally, this place is dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, who spent a few days here, while staying at the Himalayas.
