Experience living in a haveli while tasting the authentic Rajasthani hospitality at Mandawa.  Sample some authentic Marwari delicacies, get immersed in the soulful folk music, and explore miniscule villages called dhaanis. Or simply spend your time taking in the beauty of the gorgeous heritage haveli, reading your favourite book, talking to your loved ones.

Mandawa is a quiet Rajasthani town situated 240 kilometres to the west of national capital Delhi. Located centrally in the Shekhawati region, the traditional bastion of Marwari traders, it was an important trade-town from the 17th century until a few decades ago. The prosperity of its old residents is reflected in the gorgeous havelis they built all over the town, complete with traditional Rajasthani architecture and intricate fresco paintings depicting events from Lord Krishna’s legends and scenes from the daily life of yore. So while the trading families have moved to other parts of the country, these havelis, temples and castles still stand testimony to the past era, captivating travellers from India and abroad alike.

About V Resorts Paawana Haveli Mandawa

V Resorts Paawana Haveli, located right in the middle of the town, is a restored haveli that is more than 100 years old, and is now a beautiful heritage retreat. Situated on the main street, right next to the 300-year-old Raghunath Temple, the haveli is perfectly located so that visitors can experience Mandawa in a true and authentic manner.

The property’s doors open up to an aangan courtyard, with chaupal-style seating in the centre under a tree along with standard tables and chairs occupying the remaining space. Two small flights of stairs to the left and right take you to the rooms on the ground and first floor, respectively, and straight ahead, after a climb of a few stair steps, is another open courtyard that doubles up as a lounge area.

The 11 rooms in the property have been classified into three categories. All of them have an exquisite Rajasthani decor, right from the furniture and the arched niches for artefacts to the elegant fresco art on the most walls. The same vision has been maintained for the common areas, including the restaurant and the open courtyards. To retain the authenticity of the art, an artist from Jaipur was brought in to paint these murals of Rajasthani local life.

Exclusive Activity: Heritage Walk

Amidst all the days-gone-by essence and a vibe that appears frozen in the past, Rajasthan with its extravagant palaces, colourful bazaars and rich heritage, is one of the few states in the country that warrants multiple visits. And getting into the heart and the soul of a place like Rajasthan is not a simple affair, but it is worth the effort, simply because the gains are massive. And this is exactly why we are helping you take a step in that direction through a heritage walk across the city.

Walk through cobbled narrow lanes, red sandstone havelis – abandoned palaces of rulers and aristocrats that ruled the city, long time ago. That’s not all. The town’s outskirts are covered by sand dunes inhabited by small villages locally called dhaanis. Although they are small in size, these dhaanis are culturally vibrant, with the residents proficient in folk performing arts and local cuisine. These interesting tidbits of information will be a constant feature of our guided tour, because it is small things like these that will help you see, hear and feel acutely the rich history and heritage that has made Mandawa a spectacular getaway in Rajasthan. History here is still alive and breathing.

Arrive at the haveli by the afternoon. Relax for some time and later, go for a temple and haveli visit. The havelis and temples here are adorned with intricate fresco paintings and have an interesting history worth learning. The Raghunath Temple next door to the resort is known for its elaborate Janmashtami celebrations. After your visits, you can lounge around in the open sit-out area having different kinds of seating options including cots, restaurant-style tables, and a chaupaal-style seating with a tree in the centre. Laze around here over a book, tea or just conversations. Enjoy an interesting outdoor dinner on the resort premises, with some piping hot snacks form the live barbecue.

Have your breakfast at the resort to start your day. Today, you will go for a heritage walk (transportation and guide cost not included) to discover all the hidden secrets of Mandawa. Here, you will get a chance to visit the miniscule Rajasthani villages, called dhaanis, which have mushroomed all around Mandawa.
