Land of The Jungle Book

For the tourist, Pench is the place Rudyard Kipling based his timeless novel, The Jungle Book out of. For the traveler however, it is more than just the jungle although the wild does hold the lion’s, or should we say the tiger’s share of attention for visitors.

Located 90 kms north of Nagpur, the city gets its name from the Pench river that cuts through the National Park. The otherwise quiet town comes buzzing to life after the monsoons each year, which sees the park open its guided Safari tours.

How to get there:

1. By Air - Nagpur is the closest city with an airport with frequent flights from other Metros. Nagpur airport to Pench 93 kms.

2. By Rail - Nagpur is the close railway station. Nagpur Railway Station to Pench 96 kms

3. By Road - Pench is well connected to other cities by a network of state and national highways:

V Recommended: Food to eat
Madhya Pradesh Cuisine
Being home to large paddy farms and deodar forests, the cuisine of the region is mostly rice based and is coupled with curries stirred up with local spices. Dal Bafla, an adaptation of the more popular Litti Chokha is a staple diet enjoyed by the locals. While in Madhya Pradesh, be sure to visit one of the surrounding villages and have a meal with the warm and friendly local families. .
V Recommended: Things to buy
Shopping in Pench
While Pench is not quite a shoppers paradise, the Pachdhar Village known as the native home of the region’s Kumhaar community is a must visit for those looking to decorate their homes with earthy artifacts & decorative items made by the village’s potters. For a more boutique range of local offerings ranging from pickles to incense sticks, be sure the visit the Pitara Store... .
