Travellers from around the world make their way to Jodhpurs Mehrangarh Fort, for its sandstone walls, stained-glass panels, and sweeping views of the Blue City. The incredible bastion is truly one of the most incredible forts in the state, but to really feel the fort stir to life, we recommend you attend a music festival here. And with the World Sacred Spirit Festival, set to take place in the next few days (between Feb 15-18), we cannot think of a better excuse to visit the fort.
Who Is It For?
Closet-Sufi lover, or Sufi and proud, this festival has got some incredible musicians coming together on one single platform. At the 200-year-old Chokelao Bagh garden, drink in the fragrance of frangipani as the The Langas, a modest caste of Muslim farmers who use a variety of stringed instruments, belt out rousing folk music. Wind down the evenings at the courtyard of Mehrangarh Fort, where you can contemplate starry skies over the passionate songs of artists like Zainab Afilal, Madan Gopal Singh – Chaaryaar, Gazi Khan and the Qawwali Party of Jodhpur: Shaukat Andaz, Bundu Khan Qawwali Group.
Why Should I Go For It?
Because you cannot miss the Sufi notes that will become all the more unforgettable, against the background of the majestic Mehrangarh Fort. This is one of the few festivals that celebrates devotional music at such a big scale. If nothing, go for the music nirvana.
PS: The festival schedule is packed so make sure you set aside time to explore Jodhpurs bazaars and sample the citys famous pyaaz kachori at Jodhpur Sweets. If youre considering extending the trip by a few days, we have you sorted with some incredible stays across Rajasthan.
