Indian women – announce at a family get together that you have plans to travel with friends. Before long, a well-meaning query will pop – “Friends? As in boys as well?” Even as you wonder if the query rises from curiosity or is coquettish you explain that your friends are all girls – biologically, emotionally, legally and socially. It is so essential to point that out given our new found, can no longer be evaded – trans(cending) of identities
So why is it fun to travel with an all-girls gang? As the gender that wears the pants in the itinerary, wear what feels comfortable and practical for travel. Also remember the manforce is not there to lug your luggage – so travel light.
If you are travelling by road, literally take on the driver’s seat. Amble or accelerate – no backseat male driver is going to decide the road your journey takes.
Get thrifty. You can share hotel rooms, beds and even clothes. With an all-girls gang, you don’t have to be subjected to the prying, judgmental looks of the receptionist. Well … what if they judge you for lesbian traits? Puh…leez we are Indians – this word is not socially recognized and hence does not exist. Also, what guys can do with male bonding with the hotel staff and a generous tip, the girl gang can do as well – being a dragon in charge or a damsel in distress or actually the best way – being oneself. And the generous tip too can be whittled if not done away with.
It is not all about economy. Indulge in a spa session, head massage, facial or even an entire makeover without the male refrain that a beauty parlour is not a travel destination. And of course what kind of travelling is complete without shopping. With a gang of girls, bargaining is apt to be a polished skill.
So gang up and get away with girl power to explore worlds that let you be what you essentially are – free.
