    #SummerGetaways: Your Quintessential Guide To The Hill Stations of India

    Take a break this summer and escape from daily life to enjoy winters in summers. Instead of those famous and over-crowded hill stations, here are some wonderful options to get lost in the lesser known hill stations of North India. You will not only experience a calm and enjoyable location but you will come to see and explore some new place which most of the people have not even heard of.

    1.      Kasol Village, Parvati Valley, Himachal Pradesh

    This lovely calm place is the base camp for several treks, lately Israelis have fallen in love with this place and they have become an integral part of the village. It is a lesser known destination which is now becoming trendy due to many foreigners taking long duration shelters here. It is an ideal place for those travelers who want to relax, sit by the river and do nothing.

    2.      Bir and Billing, Kangra Valley, Himachal Pradesh

    Bir and Billing are the two towns of Kangra District in Himachal which are not much popular as a destination, but amazingly also known as ‘Paragliding capital of India’. Popular among adventure sports lovers, Bir is the take off site while Billing is the landing spot. Bir is situated 35 km from Palampur while Billing is situated 14 km from Bir, where the town has inhabited Tibetan colony and various Buddhist monasteries. The Tibetan Colony here is the earliest Tibetan refugee settlements in India, established in 1962.

    3.      Sattal, Uttarakhand

    Also known as land of seven lakes, it is a wonderful hills station which is a fusion of seven-interconnected fresh water lakes with mythological beliefs, names of those seven lakes are scared to Hindu Mythology. Home to some 230 species of migratory birds, Sattal is a bird watcher’s paradise. While holidaying in Sattal, do book a stay at V<a, a hill-top boutique resort with breathtaking views of the lake.

    4.      Ramgarh, Uttarakhand

    Rabindranath Tagore’s Geetanjali soulfully echoes in the air of Ramgarh where many others also got writing inspiration due to the calm and serene environment this place has to offer. Getting around Ramgarh will allow you to see some picturesque places filled with orchards and great trekking trails.

    5.      Pauri, Garwhal, Uttarakhand

    Pauri is a quant place where life has almost remained untouched with the pace and lifestyle of modern day people. The only temples of Lord Laxman and Goddess Sita in the world make it a scared place of Hindus according to Hindu Mythology. Explore the local food and walk amidst nature, or just relax after exploring the religious places Pauri has to offer. Home to some wild beast, Pauri is also a great destination for wildlife spotting.

    6.      Bhimtal, Uttarakhand

    Named after the legendary Bhima of Mahabharata, Bhimtal is a beautiful lake surrounded by tall green mountains. The lake is scenic spot with a small island at its centre on which there is a beautiful large aquarium which was previously a restaurant. There is an ancient temple on the banks of the lake named Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple, an old Shiva temple in the bank of Bhimtal lake, which is believed to have been built by Bhima when he visited the place during the banishment (vanvas) period of Pandavas. Bhimtal is older than the Nainital city as it was once the part of the ancient silk route.

    7.      Narkanda, Himachal Pradesh

    Surrounded by the Shivalik ranges, Narkanda is a small hillside town in Himachal. Offering spectacular views of the snow-clad mountains, Narkanda is an amazing holiday destination for the ones who want to escape the rat-race life of cities.  Narkanda is a skier’s paradise in winters. During winters the slopes come alive with skiers. In summers, the hills, blanketed with apple and cherry trees create pink and white panoramas of blossoms. These blossoms turn to fruit in Autumn which are plucked and exported to other regions or processed into a special apple wine exclusive to that region. This place remains beautiful all round the year with different views and experiences in different months of the year.

    8.      Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh

    Loaded with apple orchards in summers, located on the bank of Tirthan River, this picturesque valley has abundant of trout fish in the river which makes a perfect destination for angling holidays in India.

     9.      Thanedar, Himachal Pradesh

    Thanedar is the place where the first sapling of apple was planted by Satyanand Stokes and the famous Tani Jubber Lake is also just a distance of 4 Kilometers from here. Thanedar is just 15 kilometres from Narkanda which is a famous hill station for its Apple, Apricot and Cherry Orchards found all over the area.

     10.  Peora Valley, Uttarakhand

    Located at small Peora Village of Nainital District, this calm, clean and unhampered natural getaway is a perfect holidaying destination for summers, far from crowd in Kumaon Hills of Great Himalayas. Having magnificent view of snow capped mountains, beautiful resorts and escapes to some famous places like Almora, Kausani and Mukteshwar, which are easily approachable by road.
