What’s the buzz?
Cheaper than most local train journeys, a new express train by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been started, with the motive of boosting tourism.
We don’t remember ever paying only INR 10 for a train ticket, and we bet you never have either. Well, it’s possible now—thanks to this special train, and we’re still in shock!
What should you know?
According to IRCTC’s official Twitter account, bookings are now open for the Steam Express, which will take you from Garhi Harsaru to Farukhnagar.
This is the first time that Indian Railways has started a special tourist train at a nominal fare of INR 10. According to a report by The Times of India, the train will run throughout the year and is expected to encourage travellers from all parts of the world to visit this part of the country, and explore it through a picturesque train journey.
Media reports say that IRCTC believes the launch of this special train is a landmark moment in the history of Indian Railways.
What’s our take?
We’re just happy to welcome the arrival of a new train that will not just chug through untouched parts of the country, but also take us on a journey down memory lane. Is it just a matter of time before keen travellers from different parts of India and the world book train tickets on IRCTC? That remains to be seem but at the end of it all, we would like to think of this train as a major contribution to the world of Indian tourism.
