It’s unfortunate that we are living in a world in which sexual harassment is rampant. But then, we are lucky that there are a few people who have taken up the responsibility to educate people the difference between the minute difference between the right and wrong through Prevention Of Sexual Harassment (POSH) workshops.
Sexual harassment is becoming increasingly prevalent in Indian workplaces — records suggest that at least one in four women have been a victim of this phenomenon. In fact, the number of men who are at the receiving end of sexual harassment has also been on the rise. What’s even more shocking is that most people who experience sexual harassment don’t report it — most of them don’t even realise that what they experienced was unwelcome sexual behaviour and was unlawful. This where POSH comes in — a workshop which intends to make people aware of the offences that fall under sexual harassment and to educate them about the ways this crime can be reported.
According to the Vishakha Guidelines, sexual harassment need not involve physical contact. “Any act that creates a hostile work environment—be it by virtue of cracking lewd jokes, verbal abuse, circulating lewd rumours etc. counts as sexual harassment,” the guidelines state.
Looking at the rise of sexual harassment cases in Indian workplaces, the government has now made it a mandate for all companies to follow these guidelines. However, for proper implementation of these guidelines and to get the right impact from the same, it’s important that the company educates its employees through a POSH workshop.
The POSH workshop is all about making both men and women understand that stimulus is just a natural process, it is also impossible for anyone to understand or even predict the kind of act she faces, or even to be aware of the ways she should save herself or even react to it. This course intends to impart its participants with the knowledge of how they should take charge of their wellbeing and decide how people around should treat them.
At V Resorts, we care for our all of our employees, and that’s the reason why we arranged for a Prevention Of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Workshop in our corporate office. With the proud badge of POSH certification, we look forward to join the bandwagon of gender equitable workplaces and say ‘NO’ to sexual harassment.
