For those, who really love to travel, the best ways to explore and discover is to hit the road. And if you are living in the National Capital Region, then you have plenitude of escapes via roads. A road trip with the company of people you love is a great way to create memories. Laugh, sing and drive together while reaching your destination. Here is a list of 5 road trips that you can take:

1.      Delhi to Sattal

Sattal is an amazing place nestled in hills and a road trip to Sattal lets you enjoy and absorb the nature at its best. So just get your best buddies or maybe the special one, and give them a ride that they will remember forever. The views are enchanting and you will find yourself lost in the glorious splendour of nature. While you reach higher altitudes, you will find clouds around you and the experience will be magical. While you are on a road trip to Sattal, one thing is ensured – that you won’t be able to keep your cameras off. Every turn you take, every mile you cover – nature will surprise you and you will be compelled to freeze it through the lens.

Road Trip Information: It is about 285 km away from Delhi and will take around 6 hours. There are a number of popular dhabas where you can stop by. Some of them, which you must consider are Bhajan Dhaba, Café Tadka and Skylark Udupi. There are also many petrol pumps and ATMs, so that you can have a smooth journey throughout!

Activities to do in Sattal: Itis a great offbeat destination where you can experience adventure activities like Trekking, Angling, Kayaking, Rock Climbing and Paragliding. If you love watching birds, you can see 230 different species of birds. 2.      Delhi to Ramgarh

It is advised to start early in the morning so that you don’t have to face the traffic of Delhi, Ghaziabad and successive cities. There are various rest stops and good dhabas where you can relish some delicious food. The condition of roads is decent. 

Activities to do Ramgarh: Long nature walks, fishing, picnic lunches, just sitting back & admiring breathtaking sunsets & sunrises are some of the things you can do here. Apart for being lazy, you can go for some outdoor activities like trekking, cycling and shopping, etc. Ramgarh is a peaceful destination and if you are writer seeking peace, it is a perfect destination. This is the place where Rabindra Nath Tagore wrote Geetanjali and also it was a favorite stay for Mahadevi Varma, who often visited here for working on her novels.

3.      Delhi to Dalhousie

 The road trip from Delhi to Dalhousie can be a great trip as the destination is blessed with enchanting beauty. While driving from Delhi to Dalhousie, you can take a halt at Chandigarh. The road is pretty good if you take Hosiarpur- Pathankot- Dalhousie Route via Chandigarh. The journey is almost 560 kilometers, which may take almost 10 hours. While reaching the destination you will experience some great scenic beauty. Roads of Dalhousie are famous for its shape as 8, actually the road surrounding two adjacent hill joints take the shape of 8. The roads are covered with thick trees of pine and deodar covering the hill slopes with the trunks of trees.

Road trip information: The road is good, but the drive is quite long, may take 10 hours of continuous drive to reach the destination. You may find many good options to eat while passing by Chandigarh. Roadside dhabas offer good food while you can find some decent restaurants as well.

Activities to do at Dalhousie: You can go for Paragliding, Horse Riding, Boating, Zorbing & Trekking at Khajjar Trek. It is a good destination off-beat travellers while shopping at local market is also adorable to many.

4.      Delhi to McLeod Ganj

Driving from Delhi to McLeod Ganj via Chandigarh is a great road trip. If you start early morning, you can reach Chandigarh quickly without traffic of Delhi NCR. Reaching McLeod Ganj through Dharamshala is a great experience with wonderful panoramic views mesmerizing you. Once you reach the destination, you will see the beauty of the place. It has some great cafes and restaurants to treat your taste buds. You will find many foreigners travelling like local people. You can find all types of cuisines whether you love Italian, Continental or Tibetan food.

Road trip information: Road condition is good, you must take the Nation Highway 1 which goes through Delhi, Ambala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar & Patahnkot. Some people prefer this route  Delhi- Ambala- Roopnagar- Anantpur- Bhakara NAngal- Una- Kangra- Dharamshala- Mcleod Ganj. The road trip is almost 500 Kiometres long which takes almost 10 hours non-stop to reach McLeod Ganj. 

Activities to do at McLeod Ganj: You can see some famous places like Bhagsunag Temple, Buddhist Monasteries, Tibetan Market, Tibet Museum and also the Parliament in Exile. If you want to experience some adventure, you can hike to Triund Pass and go for camping there. With an average hiking pace, it may take around five hours up to Triund and at least four hours to come down. You can also take the shortcut trail in Dharamkot to save some time off of the walk. Also, you can take a taxi from McLeod Ganj to Galu Devi Temple and begin the trek from there.

 5.      Delhi to Narkanda

 

Commonly known as "The Gateway to Apple Country", Narkanda is located just 1.5 hrs drive away from Shimla, towards Rampur on National Highway 22 - also called The Hindustan Tibet Road. Away from the chaos of city life, the valley welcomes you with breathtaking views of snow covered peaks in winters and blushing cherry/blossoms in summer. These blossoms turn to fruit in Autumn which are plucked and exported to other regions or processed into a special apple wine exclusive to that region. The drive through the narrow curvy road lined with tall green pine and deodar trees in Narkanda has its own charm.

Road trip information: The best way to go to Narkanda from Delhi is to take the old and famous Grand Trunk road, and the drive is almost 386 kilometers to get away from the stressful routine of city life. The total journey can take up to 8-9 hours, but time will fly if you take breaks to eat on the highway. There are so many good options to choose from, but the best of all is the Sukhdev ka Dhaba at Murthal for some butter dripping hot and sumptuous Parathas!

Activities to do in Narkanda: Skiing in winters, Cherry/Apple orchard tour, Trekking and mountain biking are some of the popular activities to do here.
