Murud, Alibaug – Destination Guide
Considered to be a favorite weekend destination, Murud is a peaceful place and a delight everybody wishes to visit, to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily lives. Murud is a Taluka and a municipal council in Raigad district in Maharashtra and is around 42kms from Alibaug. The place is calm and is situated on the sea shore having the cleanest beach in the area. Renowned for the Murud Janjira Palace, the history lovers will love this place. Also, the place is easy to travel from cities like Pune. As it is situated near the coastline, it offers the leisure of great seafood.
A beautiful fort situated around 500m off Murud, Murud Janjira is a main attraction for the tourists. It carries the history of never being defeated in a war, even after great attempts by the Portuguese, British and the Marathas. The ride to the fort is by a ferry, which in less than half an hour brings you to the destination.

Murud is not just about the fort, as there are several other tourist destinations in the city like Murud-Dighiferry, Shri Datta Mandir, Khokari tombs, and Padmadurg. Apart from this, the tourists can also take up activities like Scuba diving and much more.
How to Reach
Rail- There is no railway station near to Murud in less than 10 km. Roh Rail Way Station near to Roha Ashtami and Roha Rail Way Station near to Roha Ashtami are the railway stations reachable from the nearby towns. However, the Mumbai Central Rail Way Station is a major railway station at 81km from Murud.
Road- Roha Ashtami and Alibaug are the nearby towns to Murud having good road connectivity. Roads from Mumbai-Pune are also suitable for traveling through road.
Best time to visit
The best time to visit Murud is from November to February. It is better to avoid a trip during monsoon, as the boats cease to operate.
