1. Sattal Lake, Uttarakhand
Sattal (Sat-tal), also known as land of seven lakes is a wonderful lake destination in the foothills of Himalayas. This place is a hidden paradise among the oaks and pines forests all around the hills, which is a fusion of seven-interconnected fresh water lakes at a height of 1370 meters. Name of these seven lakes are mythological: Nal Damyanti Tal, Panna Tal, Purna Tal, Sukha Tal Ram Tal, Lakshman Tal and Sita Tal.

2. Bhimtal Lake, Uttarakhand
At a distance of 17 miles from Haldwani, Bhimtal Lake is almost 1375m above the sea level, having a small island in the centre. This lake is the biggest lake of Kumaon.
Specialty: It is a very ancient lake named after the Bhima of Mahabharata of the Hindu legends. It is believed that Bhima stayed on this sacred lake after the exile period of Pandavas.
3. Naini Lake, Uttarakhand
Another freshwater lake located in Nainital, having tectonic origin with a kidney shape look from top. It is one among the four famous lakes of Kumaon hills.

Named after the Goddess Renuka, this lake in Sirmaur District is the largest lake of Himachal Pardesh.

10. Chandra Taal, H.P.
Situated at an altitude of 4300 meters in the Himalayas this lake is also known as Moon lake. This lake looks very beautiful on a full moon night which is why is it is called The Moon Lake. During daytime, the lake appears blue in colour and a greenish tinge appears towards the evening.
Specialty: Chandra Taal is a popular destination for trekkers and campers. The lake is accessible on foot only for few months in a year, from May to September.
11. Prashar Lake, H.P.
Surrounded amidst the towering Dhaladhar ranges of Kulu valley is a small blue watered lake called Prashar. The lake known to locals is a lesser known beauty of the place which is known for its wonderful scenic views.
Specialty: Thisdeep blue water lake is considered sacred as it is believed that sage Prashar have meditated there.
12. Dashair & Dhanker Lake, H.P.
Dashair and Dhnakar Lake – is located near the Rohtang Pass that connects district Kullu with Lahaul. It is about 4,270 m above the sea level and it is also known as Sarkund.
Specialty: Lies above the monastery of Dhankar in Spiti and is halt for trekkers.
